The Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued a strike notice, which means disruptions to mail. To help animals in need this holiday season we encourage giving through online, phone, in person and e-transfer donations.
Due to the Canada Post strike, we encourage giving through online, phone, in person and e-transfer donations.

Reading Buddies

Get ready to change the world one book at a time!

In the Humane Education department, we have a simple view: The world can be and must be, a better place for all living things. Participating in a humane education program will help create the world we all want to live in.

We offer a wide range of programs for children, youth and adults with a focus on building compassion for all living things, the role CHS plays within the community, empathy building, violence prevention and respect for our natural world.

Our humane education programs foster compassion, empathy and respect through four program pillars: Youth Clubs, Birthdays, Camps and Presentations. To browse the wide range of programs we offer, visit our Education & Youth page.

Do you have a youth that loves reading and wants to spend time with the animals? Join us for CHS Reading Buddies!

Reading Buddies at CHS is a place where children connect with animals. Youth will be given an opportunity to practice their reading skills to the adorable animals waiting to be adopted, which also provides them with socialization and enrichment. Our goal is to promote literacy among youth while inspiring them to become animal welfare advocates by learning about the Calgary Humane Society’s mission and values. Reading out loud to animals can help build confidence and enthusiasm for beginning readers.

If you have any questions, please email us at humane.education@calgaryhumane.ca; we are happy to help!
